Homewave Solutions proudly completed a solar power installation project at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, one of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife conservation areas. The project was developed to provide sustainable, reliable, and off-grid energy for ranger operations, base stations, and communication infrastructure spread across the reserve.
Given the vast expanse and remote nature of the Maasai Mara, consistent power supply has always been a challenge for field communication systems and security posts. Homewave Solutions designed a custom solar power solution combining high-efficiency Victron Energy components — including SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers, MultiPlus-II inverter/chargers, and deep-cycle lithium batteries — to ensure uninterrupted operation of radios, repeaters, and surveillance systems.
The installation involved solar arrays optimized for high sun exposure, durable mounting structures built to withstand strong winds and wildlife activity, and energy storage systems calibrated to deliver consistent performance day and night. All equipment was enclosed in secure, weatherproof housings to protect against dust, humidity, and wildlife interference.
In addition to installation, Homewave conducted hands-on training for on-site personnel to ensure proper system operation, maintenance, and monitoring. The system’s integrated remote management capability via the Victron VRM Portal allows administrators to track performance and battery health in real time from anywhere.
By harnessing solar energy, the Maasai Mara team can now operate more efficiently and sustainably — reducing fuel costs, minimizing downtime, and supporting Kenya’s broader commitment to renewable energy and conservation.
